Stop the Internet Sales Tax

by ActRight Community in ActRight

A flawed internet sales tax bill is working its way through Congress. Disappointingly, the Senate approved the bill in May. Now it’s up to the House of Representatives to stop this misguided legislation from seeing the President desk, and they need to hear from activists like you.

The so-called Marketplace Fairness Act would allow states to force out-of-state online retailers to collect sales taxes on their behalf. Like similar proposals to tax the Internet, this bill has serious logistical, economic and constitutional problems.

This would have a huge impact on small businesses, which would be forced to comply with 9,600+ sales tax jurisdictions across all 50 states that are ever-changing. This would be a huge administrative nightmare, leading many small businesses to shut their doors.

Now is the time for Congress to simplify the tax code. Unfortunately, they’re poised to do exactly the opposite. Passing the Marketplace Fairness Act would make the tax code more complicated and burdensome.

Take Action Today. Tell your House members to be stronger than the Senate and OPPOSE this flawed internet sales tax bill.
