Tell the 112th Congress to end federal funding of abortion!

Reps. Chris Smith, R-NJ, and Dan Lipinski, D-IL, have joined forces to introduce The No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act or H.R. 3. This bill would ensure that taxpayers would never pay for an elective abortion in health care or any other federally-funded program, including Medicaid or on military bases. The bill would eliminate the need for annual appropriation battles over abortion funding by codifying this prohibition into federal law. The bill would also reinforce the conscience clause known as Hyde-Weldon.
 
Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, Chairman of the Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, urged Members of Congress to support and cosponsor H.R. 3., which he said would “write into permanent law a policy on which there has been strong popular and congressional agreement for over 35 years: The federal government should not use taxpayers’ money to support and promote elective abortion.”
