There has been a lot of discussion in the last several months over whether not several conservative icons would be supporting Donald Trump for President. William F.  Buckley, the founder of National Review and host of Firing Line said during the 1964 GOP primary that his rule was to support the "most rightward viable candidate." That has often been turned into "the most conservative, electable | Read More

Presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton scooped up outgoing Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz Sunday afternoon as the honorary chair of her campaign's 50-state program. In a sort of thank you letter, Clinton said the Miami congresswoman will serve as a surrogate for her national campaign, helping the team in Florida and other key states. I look forward to campaigning with Debbie in Florida and helping her in her re-election bid — because as president, I will need fighters like Debbie in Congress who are ready on day one to get to work for the American people, Clinton wrote. President Obama also celebrated Wasserman Schultz despite the negative events surrounding her resignation, which is effective at the end of the week. For the last eight years, Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has had my back. This afternoon, I called her to let her know that I am grateful. Her leadership of the DNC has meant that we had someone who brought Democrats together not just for my re-election campaign, but for accomplishing the shared goals we have had for our country, Obama said in a statement Sunday afternoon.

Putin's Party?

Submitted 8 years ago by ActRight Community

Donald J. Trump is the presidential nominee of the Republican party. But that does not absolve every Republican office holder, donor, and activist from the responsibility of satisfying himself that it is right to support that nominee for president. There are, in my judgment, many reasons to doubt this is the case. But one reason in particular hasn't received sufficient consideration: The fact that Trump and his top campaign aide have many troubling connections with Vladimir Putin's regime. Honest and patriotic Republicans who support Trump, or are tempted to do so, should review some of the publicly available evidence. Trump's business seems to be heavily dependent on Russian investment. His top campaign advisor, Paul Manafort, was the advisor to the Putin-backed stooge Viktor Yanukovich, and has deep ties to the Putin apparat. One of Trump's national security advisors, retired Lt. General Michael Flynn, was paid to give a speech at a Russian propaganda celebration and was seated next to Putin. Trump's Russia advisor Carter Page, who does much of his business with Russian companies, has argued, among other things, that a few officials in Washington annexed Ukraine and that the so-called annexation of Crimea by Russia was a rational response to this injustice.

The genderfication of U.S. politics

Submitted 8 years ago by ActRight Community

The modern art world suffered another of its periodic embarrassments recently when a visiting high school student at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art set his glasses down on the floor against a bare wall and walked away, whereupon museum patrons took it to be the latest avant garde masterpiece, crowding around it while striking chin-pulling poses and snapping photos. Although the prank was quickly exposed, art fans defaulted to the usual confusions about the quintessentially modern question — what is art? — with not a few concluding that in context it wasn't a prank at all, but a legitimate new artistic expression. Never mind that the same teenager had previously punked art-goers with a baseball cap and a trash can placed in exhibit spaces. This kind of radical subjectivity has at last spilled beyond modern art galleries and clattering coffee houses into the real world of law and politics with the recent elevation of transgender rights to the top of the national agenda.
