Support A Pro-Marriage University Professor Being Punished For Supporting The Rights of Children
Target Name | Target Organization |
Dianne F Harrison | (President, California State University Northridge) |
Robert Oscar Lopez is a tenured professor at California State University, Northridge, raised by lesbian parents, who has become an outspoken supporter of marriage and the inherent rights of children to know and be loved by their own mother and father. This has made him a ferocious target of gay and lesbian activists bent on silencing him.
False charges were leveled against Professor Lopez claiming he organized a conference at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library called “Bonds that Matter” to highlight family issues and the rights of children that allegedly contained “anti-gay” and “anti-women” statements. When confronted with the results of a nearly nine month secret investigation, Lopez was told by Susan Hua of the university’s “equity and diversity” office that attending a conference at the Reagan Presidential Library was akin to appearing at a Ku Klux Klan meeting.
Attending an event at the Reagan Library is the equivalent of attending a KKK rally? This gives you a clue about the bias that Professor Lopez is facing.
When Professor Lopez was able to produce a transcript of the conference proving that none of the allegedly offensive statements were ever made at the conference, the university was forced to drop its original charges, but they substituted them with new charges of “retaliation.” Relying on “witness statements” that Professor Lopez was not informed about or allowed to respond to, the university found him “guilty” and is now considering what punishment it will mete out – which could include suspending him from the faculty and stripping him of his pay.
Taxpayer-funded universities like CSU Northridge regularly cite “academic freedom” and “freedom of speech” when defending leftist orthodoxy espoused by liberal professors who support LGBT issues including gay parenting and alternative family structures. Please act today to demand that the university have the same respect for Professor Lopez’ academic freedom and freedom of expression to support the common sense concept that children have a basic human right to know their mother and father.
The Petition
Dear President Harrison
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the inquisition that has occurred at CSUN against Professor Robert Oscar Lopez. Despite the biased investigation of him into charges he organized a conference that was allegedly “anti-gay” and “anti woman”, Dr. Lopez was able to categorically prove that no such statements were made at the conference. Forced to drop the original charges, the university office of equity and diversity brought new charges of “retaliation” based on “witness testimony” that Dr. Lopez was neither informed of nor given the opportunity to rebut. The bias of this office against Dr. Lopez is palpable given Dr. Susan Hua’s repeated statements that attending a conference at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is akin to attending a meeting of the KKK.
The university is keen to defend the “academic freedom” and “freedom of speech” of liberal professors who advance leftist policies. It should show the same deference to a professor like Dr. Lopez who supports the right of children to know their mother and father.
I demand that the case against Professor Lopez be dismissed and an apology be issued to him for the improper targeting of him because of his political views.
