This Tuesday, the Tennessee House Education Sub-Committee will vote on a bill that would prohibit public schools and institutes of higher education from allowing boys to use girls' bathroom and locker room facilities and vice versa. The bill also allows local schools, at their discretion, to make single-stall restrooms available to students.  Please sign the petition today urging Tennessee to protect our children's privacy and dignity.

While we have reached out to many of the committee members, it is important they hear from their constituents. They must know where you stand.

The Reason for the Bill

The current trend of schools and municipalities throughout the country is to accomodate people who wish to declare a gender identity in conflict with their biological sex by granting them unfettered access to public restrooms and locker rooms of their desired gender.

The Facts:

  • Title IX of the Education Amendments specifically allows schools to "provide separate toilet, locker room, and shower facilities on the basis of sex."
  • In 2015, two different federal courts upheld the policies of a University and a local school district, respectively, to "use sex-segregated bathroom and locker room facilities based on students' natal or birth sex."
  • Creating a uniform, statewide policy will ensure that no local school district implements rules that allow boys to access girls' restrooms and vice versa.

Allowing students to use restrooms, locker rooms, and showers that are reserved for students of a different biological sex will create significant potential for disruption of school activities and unsafe situations, not to mention the potential for shame, embarrassment, and psychological injury to students and potential lawsuits for damages and invasion of privacy.

Sign the petition urging the Tennessee legislature to protect our children's privacy and dignity.

Keep Boys' and Girls' Bathrooms Separate - Support HB 2414

Please support House Bill 2414. No child should be forced by the government into an intimate setting -- bathrooms, locker rooms, showers -- with a member of the opposite sex. HB 2414 protects the right to privacy of ALL students and ensures a safe and ordered learning environment.
