The Kokomo City Council is considering a draconian anti-1st amendment ordinance that must be stopped. Add your voice to those opposing such intolerant and dangerous ordinances.
This bill is up for a final vote on March 14th.
Business owners who willingly serve everyone but cannot participate in events or religious ceremonies that violate their deeply held beliefs could still be fined $2,000 a day by the city for merely exercising their 1st Amendment Rights, if this ordinance goes into law.
Additionally, the proposed ordinance puts women and young girls in jeopardy through the provision that allows for men to use women's restrooms and locker rooms. The ordinance would even give convicted male sexual offenders the right to invade the privacy of girls in these areas that should be a safe haven for women in our community.
This ordinance is not needed. It is only serving to divide the city. While there is little to no evidence of the mistreatment of people based on sexual preference, there is growing evidence of hostility toward people of faith.
Please sign the petition below urging the city council to defeat this dangerous and intolerant ordinance.

Infringing upon the 1st Amendment Rights of Religious Freedom, Free Speech and Freedom of Association is not worth the message you are attempting to send with this ordinance. Especially when you factor in the large legal fees this ordinance will cost Kokomo taxpayers to defend it.
The cities of Carmel, Indianapolis, Bloomington and Columbus are already embroiled in litigation for violating the 1st Amendment Rights of their citizens in virtually the same way you are considering here in Kokomo.
Please review the lawsuit these other communities are mired in before going ahead with this costly and unnecessary ordinance: http://www.jamesmadisoncenter.org/cases/files/ifi-carmel/amended-complaint.pdf
Please stand for the 1st Amendment Rights of the citizens you represent and vote against the Kokomo Anti-1st Amendment Ordinance (6820). Religious Freedom, Free Speech, Freedom of Association and the safety of women and young girls in our community are at stake.
