Over 1 year ago, American Christian Pastor Saeed Abedini, with the permission of the United States and Iranian governments traveled to Iran to help build an orphanage. Soon thereafter he was arrested and imprisoned in Iran.
His crime? Being a Christian.
Pastor Saeed converted to Christianity from Islam. The Iranian government claims that Pastor Saeed is a national security risk and in prior visits to Iran started home churches and worked with Iranian teens in converting them to Christianity.
In early 2013, Pastor Saeed was sentenced to serve 8 years in an Iranian jail. Recently he was moved to Iran’s toughest prison, Rajai Shahr. Experts say that the prison is overcrowded, deadly and inhumane.
If Pastor Saeed not released, this move is a death sentence. This husband and father may never see his wife and two children again.
The United States government admits that Pastor Saeed did not commit a crime, but they are blaming a lack of diplomatic relations for the failure to get him out of prision and back to American soil. This is not true.
Recently, in New York, US President Barack Obama had a direct conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani about Iran’s nuclear program. In the discussion, it has been reported that President Obama was willing to discuss relieving foreign pressure and sanctions on Iran. This brought new hope to the family of Pastor Saeed.
Soon thereafter, world leaders and their representatives gathered in Geneva to strike this “deal” with Iran, and after the deal was announced, we come to learn that the release of Pastor Saeed and other religious prisoners was not mentioned.
The Whitehouse and other world leaders could not find time on their agendas to discuss the major human rights violations Iran commits every day, such as imprisoning Christians for openly expressing their faith.
Please sign this petition, asking for world leaders to immediately demand the release of Pastor Saeed Abedini and the countless other religious prisoners they keep.
The Petition
Demand the release of Pastor Saeed Abedini
Iran ranks in the top percentage of human rights violators among all nations in the world. They have countless religious prisoners whose only crime committed is being a Christian.
Saeed Abedini, an American, Christian Pastor, husband, and father, has been imprisoned for over 400 days in Iran on false charges. The Iranian Government refers to him as being a “national security risk” based on allegations that were presented without proof that Pastor Saeed contributed to the start of hundreds of home churches and helped young Muslims convert to Christianity.
Pastor Saeed is a husband and father of two children. He is reported to be held in deadly conditions in Iran’s toughest prison, Rajai Shahr. The same reports have said that he is ill and is not getting the proper medications to survive.
This is a clear violation of human rights and we call on you to fight for this man’s life. Please use all means necessary to demand for the release of Pastor Saeed Abedini, whether it be through official or unofficial “diplomatic” channels.
Iran must be held accountable for this man’s life and the lives of countless other Christians given similar death sentences on false accusations.
