Daniel Dromm (New York City Council)

On April 9th, City Councilman Daniel Dromm, in remarks made to the Huffington Post, protested plans of Chick-fil-A to open new locations in his city because its CEO has in the past publicly expressed his own personal belief in marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Speaking to HuffPo, Dromm had this to say:

We don’t need bigots coming to New York City. They are not welcome here unless they can embrace all of New York’s diverse community, including the LGBT community.

More shockingly, Dromm made clear that it was immaterial to him whether these views were public or private, whether they had any impact on the running of a business or were simply personally-held beliefs. HuffPost reported:

Dromm, the city councilman, said there was no place for Chick-fil-A in New York, even if it remains out of the political fray.

"We don’t need bigoted people even keeping their opinions to themselves," he said. "They need to wake up and see reality."

Dromm owes people of faith and other believers in traditional marriage an immediate apology. He has, effectively, told millions of New Yorkers that they are unwelcome in his city!

Send a message to the City Council today demanding that the Council apologize for and expressly condemn Dromm’s remarks which have alienated so many good New Yorkers and made them fear their own city is to become a hostile and unwelcoming place.

Demand an Apology from NYC Councilman Daniel Dromm

Mr. Dromm’s recent remarks that those who believe in traditional marriage are unwelcome in New York City - regardless of whether they express these views publicly or not - are outrageous and deserve to be condemned.

Furthermore, the Council should apologize to the millions of New Yorkers whom Mr. Dromm has alienated with his intolerant comments.

It is disgraceful enough that Mr. Dromm would try to keep a company like Chick-fil-A from settling in New York solely on account of its CEO’s privately-held and personally-expressed views on marriage; but it is absolutely reprehensible that Dromm would go so far as saying ANYONE holding such beliefs is simply unwelcome in New York City!

Please let New Yorkers know that the Council does not stand by these comments.

Let Mr. Dromm know that Christians, Jews, Muslims - people of all faiths or no faith at all - who believe in marriage as the union of one man and one woman, have been made to feel unwelcome in New York City because of his intolerant sleights against them.

We deserve better than to be called “bigots” by an elected official. At the very least, we should not be told we are unwelcome solely because of the pro-marriage values we  hold dear.
