In the course of my work, I am often asked by colleagues to review and explain documents and statutes. Recently, in conjunction with my colleagues Catherine Herridge and Pamela Browne, I read the transcripts of an interview Ms. Browne did with a man named Marc Turi, and Ms. Herridge asked me to review emails to and from State Department and congressional officials during the years when Hillary Clinton was the secretary of state.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – The Confederate flag is no longer flying over Fort
Sumter.
The National Park Service said the flag, along with other historic
replicas, was taken down last week in the wake of the Charleston church
shooting when Gov. Nikki Haley ordered the American flag lowered to
half-staff.
Officials with Fort Sumter say the flag will not be going back up.
They also say they have decided to remove Confederate flag items from the
fort’s gift shop.
The Fort Sumter National Monument Park also includes Fort Moultrie and the
Charles Pinckney National historic site.
Confederate forces fired on the Union-held fort on April 12, 1861, the
moment that served as the start of the American Civil War. Fort Sumter
surrendered 34 hours after the first shots, according to the National Park
Service.

Americans love the 4th of July—and for good reason. Writing to his wife in July 1776, John Adams hailed the Fourth as “the day of deliverance” and predicted that it would be “celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival.” He correctly foresaw these annual celebrations “with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.” On the first anniversary in 1777, the celebrations started, and they have continued ever since.
