Chuck Hagel (Defense Secretary)

Decreasing the size of the military is not in the best interest of the United States of America.

The Obama Administration, led by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has announced that they will cut the number of active troops within the military by 130,000. The biggest hit will come to the Army, as it will be forced to reduce in size to pre-WWII numbers. Additionally, they propose to scrap a whole line of fierce Air Force fighter jets.

They say their only motive is to cut expenses, but in reality the Department of Defense budget is bloated, as it is full of fiscal allocations for off topic projects. They plan to allocate more funds for erroneous projects that have nothing to do with defense, while making the decision to cut the housing allowance of every member of the military by 6%.

Why does Chuck Hagel insist on cutting the number of troops, equipment used to protect the American people, and the benefits received by members of the military; while including spending measures for special projects that have nothing to do with defense?

In response to his motives, Secretary Hagel said the move makes sense given that the U.S. military is not likely to be waging “troop-intensive nation-building operations” anytime in the near future.

With escalating situations globally, are we certain that now if the time to decrease the military?

Help us question Chuck Hagel’s motives.

The Petition

Stop Weakening Our Military

At this point in time, I strongly urge you not to decrease the size of the military. A strong American military presence globally is good for the interests of the United States, our allies, and the free world. With escalating situations globally that attempt to oppress freedom, I encourage you to revise your proposal to accurately reflect the full strength of the US military. Show Americans, our allies, and our enemies that our leaders desire to be strong, and will not fret in the face of bullies.
