We had to know it couldn’t last. Donald Trump delivered a measured, presidential speech before a joint session of Congress that was well received (Yeah, we know. Low bar and blah blah blah) by people across the political spectrum. The only question was, “How long will Trump hold out before letting loose a crazy tweet storm?” The answer is “Less than a week.” Yes, the | Read More »

Too often, the realm of environmental policy has gone down unforgiving roads. In terms of regulating industry being one of those many roads, the devil in the details become exposed. At this point, a Pandora’s box of nonsensical regulation envelopes the free marketplace with unrealistic standards that limit and restrict growth for an economy. Upon the transition of power, visa vi the transition of an Obama White House to a Trump White House, the American Environmental Protection Agency had nearly unchecked power. Now, as we see the rise of individuals like Scott Pruitt and Ryan Zinke to lead the nation’s environmental agencies, a shimmer of hope, through the guise of a resurging call for environmental federalism is on the horizon. Pruitt, the former Attorney General for the state of Oklahoma, in particular, is a man that has built his career on fighting against unconstitutional federal overreach. He knows first hand the horrors of the central government asserting its misguided and misinformed agendas on the state government, directly?

Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., has been in damage control mode all day after she was caught falsely claiming she has never ever met with a Russian ambassador in her capacity as a member of the Armed Services Committee. Unfortunately, the truth of her bogus charge came out only after MSNBC and CNN gave it uncritical coverage. As is usually the case with these media misfires, this story requires some unpacking. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Thursday afternoon he would recuse himself from parts of an ongoing investigation into Russia's alleged involvement in the 2016 presidential election. He made the announcement after it was revealed this week he that had failed to disclose during his confirmation that he spoke twice last year with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Prior to Sessions' announcement, however, McCaskill said the following on social media:

On February 7, a giant hole opened up in the main spillway of Northern Calfornia's Oroville Dam, leading to a possible chain of events that could burst the dam's reservoir with billions of gallons of floodwater crashing into the towns below. The next day, the office of California's Democratic governor Jerry Brown released its wish list, in hopes of snagging $100 billion in federal infrastructure funding out of the $1 trillion that President Trump has pledged. Guess which infrastructure project wasn't on Brown's list of 51 items, even though the list had been prepared in December 2016, when heavy rains began pelting California for days on end and raising threats of serious floods? Repairing the Oroville Dam. This despite the fact that environmental groups had warned as early as 2005 that the dam, completed in 1967, didn't meet modern safety standards for heavy flooding and had urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to require concrete fortifications on an auxiliary spillway that is essentially just a (now badly-eroding) dirt hillside topped by a 30-foot wall as a condition for relicensing the dam's hydroelectric plant.
