'MTV News' produced this video of proposed New Year's Resolutions for "white guys," because that group could "do a little better in 2017."
"Try to recognize that America was never 'great' for anyone who wasn't a white guy," the video urges America's white men. "And learn what mansplaining is, then stop doing it."
Also it advises them to: "Stop bragging about being 'woke.'"
"Just because you have black friends doesn't mean you're not racist. You can be racist with black friends," it clarifies. "And feel free to take Kanye West, though. You guys can have him."
As of this writing, the video had 89 'thumbs up' votes on Youtube and 11,922 'thumbs down' votes.

On Friday's The Beat with Ari Melber -- a relatively new MSNBC show that recently replaced Greta Van Susteren's For the Record program -- host Melber not surprisingly assembled a panel of lefties to discuss the week's news for the show's regular "Fall Back" segment. Former Ebony editor-in-chief Amy DuBois Barnett took aim at Caitlyn Jenner because the transgender Republican was recently seen wearing a pro-Donald Trump hat even after Trump's announced ban on transgenders in the military. Inserting race into the conversation, DuBois griped Jenner is "flaunting her residual white male privilege."

Most people think that the 1st Amendment guarantees free speech. But the philosopher John Stuart Mill argued that free speech requires more than just the absence of legal strictures. The “tyranny of opinion” of the majority has the same effect as censorship enforced by law. When everyone lives “under the eye of a hostile and dreaded censorship” by their fellow citizens, there will be no free inquiry. If Congress “make[s] no law … abridging the freedom of speech,” yet challenging popular opinion gets you fired from your job and made into a pariah, the legal freedom is largely symbolic. Some people may speak their mind and suffer the consequences, but there won’t be free speech.
Mill extolled freedom of speech as a necessary condition for discovering the truth, and he took it for granted that truth is a valuable thing to have. But what about people who don’t want to discover the truth? For them, free speech is the enemy. And since legal protections for free speech are so strong in America, they must resort to extralegal means of silencing those who challenge the lies that they want to protect.

The moves come after world powers, including Russia, reached an interim deal with Iran this month on curbing its nuclear program. The Kremlin said President Vladimir Putin signed a decree ending a self-imposed ban on delivering the S-300 anti-missile rocket system to Iran, removing a major irritant between the two after Moscow canceled a corresponding contract in 2010 under pressure from the West. A senior government official said separately that Russia has started supplying grain, equipment and construction materials to Iran in exchange for crude oil under a barter deal.
