White House national security adviser John Bolton announced that U.S. troops will remain in Syria as long as Iranian troops did. What did Bolton say? While speaking to reporters in New York on Tuesday, Bolton said, "We’re not going to leave as long as Iranian troops are outside Iranian borders and that includes Iranian proxies and militias," the Washington Post reported. Previously, the U.S. had said that it would only remain in Syria until the Islamic State was defeated. After Bolton's comments on Tuesday, Defense Secretary James Mattis reiterated that the defeat of the Islamic State was still the focus of the U.S. “Right now our troops inside Syria are there for one purpose, and that’s under the U.N. authorization about defeating ISIS,” Mattis told reporters gathered at the Pentagon. “Our troops are there for that one purpose.” In April, the White House announced that the U.S. mission in Syria was coming to a “rapid end” as ?

Donald Trump has signaled that retired general James Mattis is a likely pick for the top job of secretary of defense. Mr Trump called him "James Mad Dog Mattis" and told reporters he was "the real deal", tweeting praise about the retired general after an hour-long meeting on Saturday. Mr Mattis served 44 years, rising through the ranks of Marine Corps, and led a task force into southern Afghanistan in 2001 as well as a Marine division during the Iraq invasion in 2003.

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, became the latest GOP lawmaker to call for IRS Commissioner John Koskinen's head. Frankly, in my view, he's the most corrupt IRS commissioner that I've ever dealt with, Brady said on Monday. He continues … to mislead Congress, and until he's removed, I don't think the IRS will ever regain its credibility. He certainly isn't making an effort for [improved] consumer service, Brady added. And it's one of the reasons why in our tax reform proposal we dramatically simplify the tax code. So we're proposing to bust up the IRS and redesign it into a 21st Century [entity] focused on taxpayer service. Koskinen survived an impeachment vote in the House last year but only because GOP leaders objected to the process that would remove him from office, rather than the notion that he should be fired.

Is Trumpism the New Nationalism?

Submitted 9 years ago by ActRight Community

By Patrick J. Buchanan Photo Credit: Gage Skidmore Since China devalued its currency 3 percent, global markets have gone into a tailspin. Why should this be? After all, 3 percent devaluation in China could be countered by a U.S. tariff of 3 percent on all goods made in China, and the tariff revenue used to cut U.S. corporate taxes. The crisis in world markets seems related not only to a sinking Chinese economy, but also to what Beijing is saying to the world; i.e., China will save herself first even if it means throwing others out of the life boat.
